Would you mind?

I spent a good two hours walking around downtown Pittsburgh by myself today. Cities are interesting; I love them. So much goes on. Saw a lot to buy but managed only to splurge on a much needed lb. of espresso beans and an artzy Bodum espresso cup. I have an intense addiction to caffiene and i should probably quit, but it's too good.

HAH! Emeril is making fish tacos. When I was a sophmore I doubled up science courses to take Chem I, which put me in with all upper classmen. One of the girls in our class had some american eagle made up wannabe vintage restaurant shirt that said something about fish tacos. My lab partner informed me what a fish taco really was. She never wore that shirt again. Ohh, 10th grade was a fun year.

Not really looking forward to coming home anytime soon. Riding out here is much too fun.

Compeuteur Genieus.

Woah-ha western PA riding is nice. Today i rode in North Park in Allegehney Co. My new favorite overall park. It's very beautiful and they have just about everything^3. Literally and metaphorically; there is a swimming pool, but it's huge. A gorgeous boathouse, that's huge. A skating rink, that's giant. And baseball fields of not one, but numerous. Same with the trails. Fun and loopey singletrack that, save January rain showers, would be stupendously drypack fun. I didnt see a massive volume of trails, but was able to put together a nice 2.5 hr loop. It would be nice to ride with someone in the know who knows what the rest of the park has secretly in store.

Brain slothed.

Narcicism

Im currently in a creative slump, but listening to Madlib makes it come back. Going to sleep in tomorrow. Went to the Dickinson College library during my first few peroids today. That place is incredible.I could live inside of it. It's so huge and makes me feel so thirsty to read and become knowledgeable and educated. How crazy to think of all the pages and words and information and ideas; i wanted to spend the whole day there and just learn about the things I like and the things that are relevent to me, not some absurd high school cirriculum. I hope college turns out to be at least somewhat of how i hope it will be.

Tonight two girls from the "Treehouse" on dickinson campus came into the whole food store. The treehouse is the college's sustainable living house for their super-hippie students. It seems like a very cool idea though; you make all of your (vegan) food, no heat above 60 degrees, 3 minute showers 3x a week. Fun way to live through your college years. What if more americans thought a little more about those kinds of things? Sandy likes the idea, she says it's going to be "kids teaching the adults" because they don't know anymore. None the less, these girls were pretty out there. Apparently there used to be lots of cool kids who lived there and Sandy was good freinds with many of them. She said they used to come into the store and she would give them the produce and such that was going out of date because they weren't wasteful and realized that dates don't mean anything. But no one comes in for that stuff anymore. After this semester they plan on tearing the treehouse down.

Training with a serious attitude is hard. Volume is hard to fulfull and I'm always tired. I've still got motivation and i feel pretty good. Tomorrow is my rest day, and that I'm going to do. I plan on sleeping until 7 and taking as many naps as possible. I dont know how the ballet dancers do it. They dance for some 30 hours a week? That's strength; i would feel burned out all of the time. Guess when you like something enough to do it 30 hours a week, you never get tired of doing it. Do wish i could do 30 hour bicycle weeks though. Maybe 30 hours of sleep; definitely not 30 hours of work..

Deepilly Dep

I've been getting pretty deep on the world lately. I love being that way, but it gets pretty frightening after a lot. I think it's all this Sartre that ive been reading lately. I also passed through my first DUI checkpoint on the way home from the big chili pepper. It made me really nervous because i dont much like policemen.

I'm watcing SNL right now. The Strokes are playing and they definitely don't have the something that they used to when i first heard them. Sounds like something has changed in the effort of their singer's voice

The weather was so beautiful today. I rode mtbikes with the beatnik today. After about 5 minutes i had to shed all my layers to my shorts and jersey. It was unseemingly warm for The middle of February. I dont like that though because im sure it means that winter will come in March and then spring racing will be as muddy as possible.

So everyone tells me i look a lot like "the guy on scrubs", well whoever that is... So i look like Zach Braff and i dont watch scrubs so i found out who this guy is. I really dont look like Zach Braff.

I need to get productive.

The state of humanity.
Why do we let people like this govern ourselves? Ignorant bastards. When you think about it, it gets scary... if history really does repeat itself, where do we stand in the cycle? Are we begining to decline as a nation? Because you know we eventually will. Whatever, I'm really just a stupid kid who gets excited over nothing.

Jean Paul Sartre is my new favorite writer. He is much alike Albert Camus and if i could put it into rock and roll terms, if Camus is classic rock then Sartre is Heavy Metal. The Doobie Brothers vs. Pantera. Sartre is very philosophical in his writing, imploring the ideals of existentialism. What if when you die, you cease to exist?

I'm done with the deep shit. I think it's because i drank mate instead of coffee today. Maybe i'll stick with that from now on.

I'm definitely getting into the new wave thing right now. Check out We Are Scientists.

Wadidusay?

Im listenting to some more Zap Mama. Yo daddy they are the she-izzle. Heard about the Balkan Beat Box on NPR today. They suck but i won't bash them because sometimes i end up liking music i once hated, although it really doesn't look good for the BBB.

The weather today was sub incredible for january. I left my house around 10:00 am and 50 degrees and returned 3 hours later covered with plenty of extra 39 degree moisture. My body is starting to get used to the cold, especially my toes. Maybe it is because ive come near-frostbite so many times that there are no nerve endings or blood vessels left in my toes to sense any temperature changes. Trails were beautiful. There's a layer of wet leaves over most trails which makes for sketchy fun corners. I rode down Pole's Steeple in Michaux.(crazy shit) ATV riders piss me off. I almost got hit. Some daddys and sons came by me and the sons all of a sudden started to race each other on their fun size 4-willers other past their father and subsuquently into my pussy ass. Oh, the state of humanity. Get your kids on bikes. They will learn so much more than pushing a lever with their thumb and get some excercise so that they they don't end up like the rest of the upstanding citizens of the United Cakes of Fatmerica. 64% of the American population is obese or overweight. Doesn't anyone care about that? It's been declared an epidemic by the surgeon general Richard Carmona. The state of humanity...

Sorrynocoolpictures..tomorrow.

I always enjoy getting spam mail. The subjects are always quite enjoyable. Some highlights include...

"but pepperoni, try deportation"

"amoeba congressman singular"

"Onofredo some, deface the arisen"

"not failure some willa"

What happens when you take heavily reused clay, wax resist, high fire glaze and multiply it by a freako high school art teacher? Bam. A scary looking piece of dirt.

This was only the first time ive ever worked with clay. My current projects are damn better. A box with Roy Lichtenstein's Crying Girl scraffito'ed into the four sides. (i split the picture into 4 parts and did one quarter on each side of the box.) And a fok face jug that originated from something like this.

Work has sarted at the big Chili pepper and it seems like a fun place to work. I dont think i will ever have to worry about being understaffed or anything like that. They ruined my much anticipated philadelphia visit because i have to be there for training, but we get to eat all of the cooks' practice.

Midterms are nice in the sense that they cut down the amount of subject material on the exam, but on the other hand you have that quarter grade weighted test stress four nights compared to the previous two. AnyHO, the big 'ole English essay is over with. I had such a great feeling, everything flowed like water. Notice how my blog entry today has such an exquisite literal touch? Thats right daddy. I love that feeling during races; as in physical efforts of course. Everything flows. You can attack until your breath is raging but there's no lactic buildup burning in your legs. Nobody can touch you and what a feeling it is.

Catching the train to philthy on saturday. I'm excited to stay with dieter. It will be fun to see where all of my hard work training will put me in comparison to his riding. Learning to ride in the city will be crazy. None the less, im excited to learn it city.

I'm going to college! First acceptance, Drexel U. Now if i could only figure out a major. Lately ive been thinking about health sciences which could lead to sports medicine or whatever; im thinking i wanna help people. I dont even remember sending them all of my materials. Certainly not my top pick, but I've not been there yet. I really want to live in the city. Anyway, woot whoot. Hopefully i am going to visit sometime in the very near future. I want to see the Body Worlds exhibit while im in Philly, it looks gut wrenching, and visit an Illy cafe. I am thoroughly excited.

My laptop is very impressive at how many applications it can handle at once. He's a strong little bub but i'd better watch what i say....crash.

Electric Demons In Love

The word that best describes me is "doofis." I walk into doors, trip over my toes, choke on words. I'm hot shit.

Pckkkchhh.

"I got so much love,
I dont know where to put it.
I feel so good
I dont know what to do.
And i dont mind
The forces of evil
If they bring me closer to you."
Thanks to Dieter Ryan Leech's fabulous blog for reminding me about Electric Six. Gay bar retro vinatge garage rock that's like helium for your ego. Right now he is probably getting down and dirty to some Ferry Corsten in the big apple schnopps. What a lucky bub, mid atlantic cyclocross rockstar, photographer ladyfriend in nyc and an affinity for electronic music. I'll be there soon enough.

Training is getting pretty serious. No time to spend at the gym after school so i was a good boy and got up at 5:00 to go. Morning people at the gym are funny. A. most all are over the age of 50 so no girlies to pump it for, B. full of B.S, C. more friendly than the evening power lifters. Some guy asked me if i wrestle. No, i race bicycles (here comes an extravagant explanation that clears up absolutely nothing.) Oh like mountain bikes?? Yeah. I used to race but i havent in a while, stopped about 4 years ago. Well what'd'ya know.
Later on... "I used to race with Floyd Landis back when he was just a kid. He'd show up to the michaux races in shorts and a button shirt because he's mennonite but he'd f*ckin' kick everyone's ass. He was just unbelieveable. Now look where he is"
"Yeah thats awesome, i heard he used to ride his bike to venues, race then ride home cause he couldn't drive there."
"Yeah he was really something else."

Funny infomercail whillst i was excercising this a.m, the sauna belt... if you wear this hot belt around your stomach for just 50 minutes, you will be as ripped as the dudes in the comercial.

Late nite comedy is dry, and hispanic. I don't find hispanics funny.

please donate a new title suggestion...

I really hate reality television. I dont watch much of any television in the first place, but that is probably why. None of that stuff is real, why is that interesting anyway. I did like Gastineau Girls. Just because i was in love with Brittny's green eyes.

Royksopp is on the list. More music from norway, but i love it so.

I really liked this picture. i took it.

I think Pittsburgh might be the city where the sun never shines

I'm not really feeling this new nocturnal style. I'd much rather be a morning person, but things seem to be more fun at night. That really scares me. My transformation into a cyborg computer freak might be reving it's engine.

I just finished watching the Pink Panther "Shot in the Dark" those movies amuse me too much and they're so much better than pretty much all movies that came out this year.

Happy new year everyone.

Rode today with Kyle. We did a little "poaching" on the state game lands at Lamb's Gap. Funny that riding your bike is considered poaching, because it does oh so much damage. I really don't know what people think, but i don't like to get started on that subject. Anyway, the trails there are incredible. It's really too bad that place is illegal for people to ride. From the sounds of it, it was pretty much the mecca of mountain bike rides. What a great thing to think about...so many people getting together to spend time out of doors and get good excercise. Now its all shut off to all law-abiders and is all about the bubs huntin' bucks. Kyle says that he used to ride in group rides there a lot and that's where he picked up a lot of his bike handling skills. Wonder where they all went?

A frequent in the iPod lately has been Zap Mama. They are urban afro-european with mostly french lyrics which is good for me because im oh so fond of non-american artists, and they are from belgium. I'm not sure what it is about music from that part of the globe, but it's good. Very funky stuff, my favorite is called "M'toto" Give them a listen.
